Hello all!
This section is dedicated to one of the many elements of Brigandine new to the Grand Edition. The concept of 'Rune Knights', with 'Rune Power" or 'The power of the Rune' was part of original Brigandine. The runes are seen in the opening animation sequence. Runes are part of the background in the castle menus.
But why no explicit mention of specific runes in the game??
Well, in GE now you've got that. The main purpose Runes serve in GE is part of time-keeping. Each month has two runes, one representing the first half of the month and one representing the second half. Whereas in original Brigandine the game progressed one turn per month, GE progresses one turn per Month rune. Thus in each month you get two turns.
Like most of the terms in Brigandine, the Runes come from an extant source. The glyphs of the runes used in Brigandine GE are a modified version of the Runes Elder Futhark. However, the pronunciations are taken from the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc, a derivative of Elder Futhark from about 600 years later.
